Dermapen can be used on all skin types and colours, and is recommended for particular skin concerns such as acne, scarring, pigmentation, rosacea, stretchmarks, or those seeking rejuvenation of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also beneficial to smooth out skin texture, open pores, as well as ageing prevention from our mid 20’s when our collagen starts to deplete by approximately 2% per year!
Dermapen is a revolutionary micro-needling device which aims to tighten, lift and rejuvenate skin. It creates fine micro-injuries in the skin, which triggers the skin to naturally heal and repair itself. During the skin healing process, collagen and elastin production is naturally stimulated and regenerated.
Up to 400% new collagen can be formed from a single treatment. This firms and tightens the skin using it’s own fibres. However, results are progressive, so a series of treatments is best.
Preparing your skin for a dermapen treatment will give you the best results. Your homecare routine will consist of recommended cleansers, exfoliators, correctors, hydrators and sunscreen – these products are non negotiable when skin needling, as these products will contain certain ingredients which are required to make changes in your skin.
You may need to prepare your skin with clinical treatments first, particularly if you have an impaired skin barrier – your skin technician will advise.
Day 1-3: You can return to work immediately, however it is normal to appear quite red for a few hours after the treatment – your therapist can apply approved mineral makeup to camouflage the redness without compromising results. Your skin may feel inflamed, similar to a sunburn – this is a good thing!
Avoid activities that may make you sweat for at least 24 hours – exercise, swimming, saunas, hot showers/baths – as this may irritate your skin. Keep your skin feeling cool and calm.
We recommend using Hyla Active 3D Sculpture Mask, which is full of hyaluronic acid (to keep your skin feeling hydrated) and collagen stimulating copper peptides. This mask has a cooling effect, and will help reduce the inflammation or redness of the skin, giving you more comfort.
Only prescribed skincare should be used – Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser, Pure Age Defiance Serum, Medi Soothe. This is not the time to try samples of new skin care, and definitely do not use anything too active (Retinols, AHA’s, BHA – these ingredients may irritate the skin). Makeup worn should only be approved brands, please make sure you clean your makeup brush before using it on your fresh skin!
You should not be in the sun for a few days after a Dermapen treatment, and definitely not without your Mineral Pro SPF sunscreen. Do not use a chemical based sunscreen. This is non negotiable!
Day 3-5:
Around day 3-5 your skin may become flakey – this is a good thing and indicates a response in the skin. Be gentle with your skin and use your O Cosmedics Exfoliating Cleanser or Dermaceuticals Micro Derm Exfoliant. If you wish, you may enjoy an O Cosmedics Enzyme Peel.
When your skin feels ready, you may also reintroduce your active skin care, such as Retinol (Vitamin A), Pure C + BHA powder.
